Adventures Unbound, based in Fort Worth, TX, is a non profit organization which offers supervised travel opportunities for adults with various disabilities. We provide safe, fun, and exciting day outings and overnight trips for our travelers with disabilities, while taking all the needed precautions to care for their special needs independently of the traveler’s caregiver. All trips are accommodating for varying levels of functionality. Trained volunteer caregivers are with the travelers 24/7 at a volunteer to traveler ratio of 1 to 3. Adventures Unbound creates unforgettable experiences that enhance independence and quality of life for adults with disabilities. Our trips provide respite for caregivers of individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities. Join us as we take traveling and trips for people with disabilities to the next level.
Adventures Unbound was created in 2015 by Carrie Boggess Windmeyer. After taking her uncle with Cerebral Palsy on a cruise in 2013, Carrie began thinking about the difficulties and possibilities of traveling with people with disabilities. Thus, the idea of Adventures Unbound began. She grew up with two family members with disabilities including an uncle with Down Syndrome and an uncle with Cerebral Palsy. Carrie obtained a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Oklahoma State University in 2009. After college, she became a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. She gained experience as an Adaptive Recreation Program Specialist with Austin Parks and Recreation, an Assistant Camp Director over Programs at Camp Summit and a contract Recreation Therapist in the community. She has over 20 years’ experience with the special needs’ population. It is her passion to create safe and unforgettable experiences for people with disaibilities.
